Delta 9 Dosage

All About Delta 9!

Delta 9, What is it? What does it feel like? What dosage do I take? Is it Legal? Will I Test Positive?

What is it?

Delta 9 is THC is entirely natural and is responsible for the cannabis "high." Delta 9 is produced by various members of the Cannabacea family of plants. They include both the Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica strains.

Delta 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most well-known cannabinoid. This cannabinoid is known for its "high," but it also has some medical uses. It can stimulate appetite and reduce nausea, provide pain relief, mood enhancement, sleep aid, implications for neurodegenerative disorders, increase libido, and help manage the symptoms of epilepsy. Delta 9 THC triggers a feeling of euphoria that can help you relax and relieve your stress and anxiety.

What Does Delta 9 THC Feel Like?

People consuming delta 9 THC can have very different experiences and responses. The THC "high" is dependent on several things. The first and most important are genetics and your body chemistry! Other factors include the type of strain, amount of THC or dosage, and the delivery method. The most important factor is your body's chemistry. Until you know how your body will react, it is best to go slow and start low. Just remember, everyone is different.

What are the dosages? How do I start?

The effects of THC can vary quite a bit depending on the dose. Lower doses are more mellow and calming and can even be sedating. Higher doses shift and become much more stimulating and psychoactive. Unwanted effects can happen too. Many people who take too much THC or don't use it often may feel what's referred to as "weed anxiety." As you might have guessed, it's the anxiety caused by THC, which is a bit of a different feeling than other types of stress.

CBD Wild Leaf recommends you start low and slow until you understand how your body will react. We recommend starting with a microdose and working up to a threshold dose. A microdose refers to a dose that's below the threshold, and for delta 9, it is 1-2.5mg, with the threshold around 5 mg. Each delta 9 gummy from CBD Wild Leaf contains 10mg of THC.

Microdosing THC isn't common, but many proponents claim it offers all the same benefits as THC with minor psychoactive properties.

Common reasons for microdosing THC include:

  • Chronic pain
  • Chronic anxiety
  • Chronic depression
  • Arthritis
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Supportive oncology
  • Insomnia

Threshold Dose

If you have experience with delta 9, you can start at a threshold dose of around 5 mg THC or ½ gummy. Most users feel a clear "high" between 10 mg and 20 mg. We suggest a 3-10mg starting point as this is generally the minimum dose needed to produce noticeable psychoactive effects.

Depending on the user's size, metabolism, and sensitivity, this dose will vary. Some people are sensitive and feel the effects at 3 mg — others are less sensitive and need a dose closer to 10 mg before they feel anything.

Standard Dose

The standard dose for new and frequent users is 15-30mg. This will produce a "high." Intense euphoria, impairment of motor skills, memory impairment, and a strongly altered perception of time are common effects. Some users report minor visual hallucinations.

High Dose

(30-50 milligrams) High and heavy doses are reserved for people with a lot of experience with THC and who have a strong understanding of how their body reacts to THC.

Heavy Dose

(50-100 milligrams)

Considered a large dose, even for frequent users. Individuals usually report extreme euphoria, common visual hallucinations, a perception of time moving very slowly, and intense pain relief. Doses this high are far more likely to cause paranoia, anxiety, rapid heart rate, and memory impairment.

How Fast and Long Do the Effects of THC Last?

The timeline of effects when consuming delta 9 THC varies depending on the user, the dose, the delivery method, and several other factors. When consuming any delta THC or CBD product, the delivery method is very important for how fast it reacts and how long it will last. Let's look at each delivery method.

Smoking/vaping is the fastest delivery method for cannabinoids. The high from smoking/vaping is the quickest of all methods but lasts the shortest, generally around 2 hours. Rapid onset of a "high" can sometimes happen within 1-2 minutes.

Consuming edibles or gummies means the THC is absorbed into your bloodstream via your digestive tract. The time to effects varies considerably based on your metabolism and how much you've eaten before dosing. Most users report a high within 45 minutes to an hour, while others feel nothing for 2-3 hours after consumption. The high from edibles usually last longer than from inhaling THC — between 6 and 10 hours for most users.

Tinctures are taken sublingually and often deliver a moderate-high within 10-30 minutes and another wave of effects after an hour or two.

Is Delta 9 THC Legal?

Delta 9 THC remains illegal on a federal level in the United States and is classified as a Schedule I drug by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA). The farm bill of 2018 made delta 9 legal if derived from hemp and has 0.3% THC or less. However, individual states have decriminalized or entirely legalized delta 9 THC on a state level.
